James Cheetham / Fade To Pale

Meet the 2008 SNM Horror Author of the Year. This writer truly personifies the darkness of the human heart. Some may classify his work as dark fiction over horror, but this is a recently categorized classification of the new generation. When it comes to multi-layered twists that unravel like a tapestry of terror, he captures raw human emotion with great in-depth character development. This author has enough universal appeal to be a top bestseller in the horror genre. Concisely written and totally absorbing the reader into turning the next page, he has had not one but two SNM Stories of the Month with "Bumper Shine" and "The Wilting May Flowers." James also appears in both the SNM Anthologies. Allow me to extend a huge congratulations to the decisive winner: SNM Author of the Year:

SNM Horror Author of the Year:

James Cheetham

Some children are forced to grow up quickly while others aren't meant to grow up at all. Little Rita existed between these two spectrums, wandering in between reality and dreams, suffering and surviving in the here and now.

Some people go over the edge with courage or blind faith while others wade along the shoreline contemplating what might lay beyond. Rita found the edge and clutched the rocks. There, she lingered as a child in the cold water while hanging on for dear life. There, with broken fingernails and white, waterlogged skin she remained until she became an adult. All she needed was a little nudge.

Her past haunting her every waking moment, her present still confusing her troubled mind, she wonders about her future. Fate awaits, but what if her destiny is delievered? The universe changes and lives spiral out of control. Rita lives one such life and carries her sins close to her heart; a weed amongst flowers.

"Bold and penetrating...deliciously disturbing...psychologically acute. Entertaining as it is dark and inspiring."

-- Harvey  Wallbanger, Cocktail Reviews.

Elizadeth Hetherington / Nature of Daughters

Meet female's answer to Clive Barker.  Let us not soon forget that Elizadeth Hetherington currently has the most amount of published stories by SNM Mag and she is clearly the Queen of SNM with huge fan support. With 5 published stories, she sets the record amount of the year. She also appears in both of the Bonded By Blood SNM Horror Anthologies. Here's what one of our featured SNM Authors had to say about Elizadeth's work

“Elizadeth is one of the most interesting writers on SNM. Her stories tend to explore very humanistic themes, and cut out all the other crap. She avoids many of the standard clichés that other writers cannot seem to escape from and doesn't rely on cheap scares.” – Joel Peterson, 4 time published SNM Author.

Nature of the Daughters is a milestone journey into the rotten mind of a female psychopath. Through the waves of change, Renata Savannah finds a balance in her natural desire to kill. Obsessed with nature and science, young Renata displays her firsthand account of the the obstacles and challenges to being the successor of natural evil. A sharp, brilliant glow onto the possibilities of the irrational woman, Nature of the Daughters leaves a permanent scar.

Sylvania Ohio sets the gore-soaked scene of the fresh murderer in the wraps of social development. In a most unusual family, Renata learns the dark secrets of her history and clenches to the adventure in discovering the most scared of lessons: love, friendship, violence, lust, and the Nature of the Daughters.

Nature Of The Daughters is a page turning relentless read that sucks you in from the very first page and if it has its way you will not want to put it down. It’s like when you ride down the highway passing a gruesome accident, you want to turn away but you just cant. It’s about this dysfunctional family that has severe emotional issues. It’s one of those stories that churns you around like a frog in a blender and leaves you as bruised and broken as Renata Savannah herself. You’ll know what it is like to be a social outcast, her thoughts have you feel what she feels. Even if it’s only for an instant, it still affects you.

Joel Peterson / On Guts and Glory...

Meet 22 year old horror prodigy writer, Joel Peterson. He is an author to watch out for. He writes in a fresh and non-cliched fashion in the tradition of Poe and Lovecraft and has his own signature style that is unmistakably Joel. He has 4 published SNM stories to date and you will be hearing more about this author over time. A true wordsmith with a very unique voice, this marks his debut novel as he enters into the writing world. His fourth story has just been accepted in the June issue of SNM Mag as a collaborative with senior editor Steven Marshall.

On Guts, Glory And Goin' Out With A Bang, this book is a true throwback to cheap pulp and sci-fi and a treat for any fan of gore and violence. It is the first in series of novella known as The Polaris Account, which features the comic book style art of Michael K. Silva.

The setting takes place in Nexus, the biggest "supercity" in the western world. An ex-"Janitor" named Seth Fremont is on the loose and causing mayhem, and only Caleb Lang can stop him; a washed up super cop with a penchant for brutality and a chip on his shoulder. During his mission, he begins to unravel the mystery behind a deadly ailment known as The Polaris Virus, which if left unchecked, threatens to plunge the whole city into terror and chaos. Drug addicts, jaded terrorists, a marauding God of metal death, exploding corpses and a machete wielding cop killer; for Caleb Lang. It's all in a days work and pretty standard stuff for a treatise On Guts, Glory And Goin' Out With A Bang!

Now this is a writer to watch out for; much better than I was at his age, and true wordsmith with a unique and non-cliche style.

          Ken Kupstis / Inhuman Resources

Ken Kupstis is a writer, rock musician and all around Playboy. He has been a part of SNM Mag from the beginning with two published stories, one of which appears in Bonded By Blood. Ken has established himself with an array of published books: "Clownwhite" a comedy of Horrors, "Voodoo Highway," a short story collection, Inhuman Resources, as seen above along with "Staplegun Logic," his newest release, and "Rock Her World," an audio book and a self-help audio guide for men and women on sexuality, lovemaking and polyamory. His latest published work  includes a short story appearing in the Atrum Tempestas anthology from Black Hound Press, just released on May 15th.

K.K's Inhuman Resources is a collection of seventeen horror stories compiled to form a spine-tingling anthology. Each story is  horrific, gory, or in the case of Eyes For Breakfast, just gross.

Ranging from demonic weight machines, to aliens, insanity and science fiction, you will surly find something that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The story that freaked me out was, This Won't Hurt A Bit. I have an all new fear of dentists thanks to this story. As K.K.'s character said, "if you put a white lab coat on, people will believe anything."

Ken Kupstis is a horror author I wouldn't want to cross. If he can think of such grotesque ways that his secondary characters meet their demise, I would hate to see what he could do if he was really mad! He's an astonishing author. Horror is clearly his genre of expertise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Each story is more grotesque than the last! --Crystal Adkins, Crystal's Book Reviews, June 5, 2008.

           Steven Marshall / The Banished

Here I am appearing merely as another fellow writer and not a publisher or editor. My hope is that by offering this free online horror magazine to the public, we can generate some profits on book sales. Books are the only thing that we have for sale here.

My debut novel "Rituals of Terror" released in 2006, published by Authorhouse,  has 8 short stories which intertwine into one theme of characters who don't know each other, but meet and create this chain of events. The Dark Art of Wonder is my third novel, picking up where Rituals of Terror left off, but is not yet published. The Banished is my first complete themed novel of 205 pages, 70,000 words. It is my second published novel and only stand alone novel to date. It's also a cotrast to the more cerebral, visceral stories I write and loaded with action scenes!

                            Synopsis of The Banished:

Welcome to a world where death is certain yet life is not. Deep in the woods of a sunless forest, a strange hybrid race of savage mutant cannibals fancy human flesh for nourishment. They have been driven away from their world, banished from society, and must survive out in the woodlands on their own with their most basic and primal instincts of hunting and killing for food. They unite and form a pack, feeding off the vast wildlife…until people start entering their world and become the main course! Backpackers, hikers and hunters all start disappearing and are torn to pieces for their tasty delicacy of their fine, fresh flesh offerings. Soon the mutant’s precious resources dwindle and winter is on the horizon...

A honeymooning couple celebrating their upcoming wedding are hiking and camping out in the woods. Soon their romantic excursion becomes a fall from paradise when they encounter this strange savage breed. What devilish atrocities await them as they're taken hostage and used not for basic consumption, but as a means of escape from the creature’s dying habitat?

A National APB has been issued for escaped prison inmates traveling north in a U-Haul and state police and The National Guard are called out to the scene.  Soon a viscous battle ensues between man and mutant for the right to live, while Hell is unleashed upon a small town in Michigan with vast acres of forest and underground lakes, where the creatures lurk in the shadows and rule in their dominion. Only one race can survive as it’s a fight to death and a slaughter to the finish…

What trials and tribulations must the bride-to-be face and what crucial role does she play? Together they journey into darkness to unveil much greater revelations than any of them expected. And by that time it may just be too late...as their fate is already carved in stone.

Steven Marshall's dark and cryptic novel "The Banished" will keep you repulsed and yet intrigued about what will happen next all throughout the novel. This fast-paced, action-horror novel is very well-written with detailed blood bath scenes -- as well as true human emotion to make it come to life and gives it dimension. It proves that inside of every dark, savage creature there is still some shred of humanity clinging on…a must read!

--Crystal Adkins, Crystal's Book Reviews

Mr. Marshall deliberately creates the sense that he is a hopeless romantic and will inevitably deny the reader of any hardcore sex, violence or horror. His writing almost makes you blush and it even feels like he’s getting tongue tied. It’s just a ruse! When you least expect it, (he) dispenses with the romance and takes you for a ride. A characteristic of Marshall’s prose is that he forces you to watch. You want to look away, but he draws you in with both his well-choreographed fight scenes and vivid sexual encounters.
